FROZEN PLANET

Writing this blog I can't help but mention the one and only David Attenborough and his magnificent programme Frozen Planet. While researching energy consumption and water conservation, it is hard to notice the affects of global warming or what is happening when polar ice caps melt but when watching Frozen Planet I can really understand how important it is to preserve nature's wonders!

FROZEN PLANET

When watching frozen planet you can see the rapid melting of glaciers and when you realise that a brand new t-shirt requires 400 to 800 gallons of water to make it becomes apparent how important it is to conserve the earth's resources and to use sustainable materials wherever possible.

LOOPTWORKS
Looptworks is a relatively new business that repurposes abandoned materials into meaningful, long lasting products. They aim to rid the world of waste by re-using pre-consumer excess and ensuring no new materials are used for their collections.Everything is made from upcycled material and by doing so they save energy, prevent greenhouse gases from being released into the air and conserve water. There is no pre-planning of collections and mass production; each piece is numbered and limited edition. Where most companies need 54 weeks to produce a garment from the design stage to the production stage, Looptworks uses no more than 9 weeks from start to finish.

They limit what they can produce based on the amount of materials leftover which i think also adds to their appeal as you know you won't see a hundred and one people on the street wearing the same shirt as you. Looptworks understand that the materials they acquire are second hand, however doesn't affect its quality. Each material is tested for shrinkage and durability before being incorporated into designs. After all they say that 'part of being sustainable is building products that don’t fall apart after six months of use'.
